Sweet Legacy Blog Blitz - Exclusive Excerpt!!

If you follow my blog, you probably know that one of my favorite authors is Tera Lynn Childs. She writes fabulous, fun YA books about mermaids, demi-gods, and each of her books feature strong female main characters learning their place in the world. They are great books for weekend reading, on the beach, in a hammock, or well...anywhere!

So, why am I reminding you of all this? Today is the book birthday for TLC's newest book, SWEET LEGACY, the last book in the Sweet Venom trilogy.

Greer has always known she was privileged, though she had no idea how special her second sight made her, even among her triplet monster-fighting sisters. But when a god starts playing with her mind, can Greer step up in her pretty high heels to prevent anything from stopping her sisters’ mission?
Grace loves her adopted brother, Thane, but now that he’s back and has joined her sisters’ team, it’s clear his past is full of dark mysteries. She wants to trust him, but will Thane’s secret put the girls in even more danger?
Gretchen knows she can rely on her sisters to help her stop the monsters. But after getting to know some of the beasties in the abyss, she finds her role as a huntress comes with more responsibility than she ever imagined. How can she know what her birthright demands of her now?
The girls cannot hesitate as they seek the location of the lost door between the realms, even as monsters and gods descend on San Francisco in battle-ready droves. In this exciting conclusion to the Sweet Venom trilogy, these teenage heirs of Medusa must seek the truth, answer the ancient riddles, and claim their immortal legacy.
Today, I'm super excited to share an exclusive excerpt from SWEET LEGACY. *squee!!* Tera gave me an awesome little section from Grace's perspective... hope you enjoy!

My hands shake a little as I fumble with the backpack zipper.

“I’m perfectly all right, Grace,“ she insists. “Truly.“

I watch her, study her, checking for—I don’t know—signs of pain or a bad
reaction to the poison or something. She pats me on the arm before grabbing
one of the reorganized backpacks and carrying it over to where Gretchen has
piled the ones staying here. Except for the disheveled hair and slightly
pale skin, she looks fine, though. I hope that means she really *is* fine.

“She’s stronger than she looks,“ Thane says.

He’s watching her intently, just like I was doing a second ago.

He’s right. She may not have Gretchen’s physical strength, but inside she’s
tough. Bugging her and making her reassure me over and over isn’t very
helpful or healing.

“I know,“ I reply, turning to lean back against the table.

Thane doesn’t move. He just stands there, staring blankly across the cave.
He’s not quite looking at her anymore. Like he’s trying to act casual.

After more than half a lifetime together, I can read him too well. I can

see beneath the surface. She drops a bottle of water and his eyes are
immediately on her as she bends to pick it up. Though he’s trying to hide
it, his attention is fully focused on Greer. Something more is going on
here than he wants me to know, and considering everything that’s happening
it’s past time he told me. Secrets lead to problems.
Doesn't that sound amazing?  Want to get you own copy?

Sweet Shadows

Sweet Shadows
by Tera Lynn Childs
Sweet Venom, book two

Gretchen may have known she was a descendant of Medusa long before her sisters—after all, she's spent her life fighting the monsters that escape the abyss—but that doesn't mean it will be easy to teach the other girls the ropes. Can she rely on Grace and Greer, or even trust herself to keep them safe? Greer has pressing social commitments on her plate and precious little time to train in her newfound powers. But that wretched second sight won't leave her alone, and her fabled heritage seems to be creeping into her fashionable life.

Grace has worries closer to home—like why her brother, Thane, has disappeared. He's hiding something. Could it possibly be related to the secret heritage the triplets share?

With the warring factions among the gods of Olympus coming for them, the creatures of the abyss pushing into their world, and the boys in their lives keeping secrets at every turn, the three girls must figure out where their fate will take them and how to embrace the shadows of their legacy. HAPPY RELEASE DAY TO SWEET SHADOWS!!

I am a huge fan of Tera Lynn Childs's writing style.  If you want a fun, easy to read book, you can pick up any one of her titles and throroughly enjoy yourself. There is always a little element of romance and there is also plenty of adventure.

In this series, TLC has definitely taken things up a notch. Not only are there three main characters, the triplets Gretchen, Greer, and Grace, to juggle, but each has her own day-to-day teen problems...and a prophecy that leaves them hunting monsters and running for their lives in their spare time. :P

This book was impossible to put down. From the first page, the girls were battling monsters, uncovering big secrets, and well, trying to figure things out with the help...inadvertantly, of course, of the cute boys in their lives! After the girls had discovered one another in the first book, Sweet Venom, they had still been somewhat  uneasy with one another. Here, though, readers get to watch the girls turn to one another. They start to not only depend upon one anothers' talents, but also to seek each other out for emotional support. I truly think that was my favorite aspect of the book.

I cannot wait to find out all the secrets that are still just out of reach in the next book! I, for one, am *DYING* to know exactly what Grace's brother, Thane's, big secret is...  he definitely knows a lot more about what's happening than he lets on.

Sweet Venom

Sweet Venom
by Tera Lynn Childs
Publication date: Sept. 6, 2011

Grace just moved to San Francisco and is excited to start over at a new school. The change is full of fresh possibilities, but it’s also a tiny bit scary. It gets scarier when a minotaur walks in the door. And even more shocking when a girl who looks just like her shows up to fight the monster.

Gretchen is tired of monsters pulling her out into the wee hours, especially on a school night, but what can she do? Sending the minotaur back to his bleak home is just another notch on her combat belt. She never expected to run into this girl who could be her double, though.

Greer has her life pretty well put together, thank you very much. But that all tilts sideways when two girls who look eerily like her appear on her doorstep and claim they’re triplets, supernatural descendants of some hideous creature from Greek myth, destined to spend their lives hunting monsters.

These three teenage descendants of Medusa, the once-beautiful Gorgon maligned in myth, must reunite and embrace their fates in this unique paranormal world where monsters lurk in plain sight. (description from Amazon.com)

Ok, so I already read this book a few weeks ago and published my pictorial teaser (check it out here) because I couldn't wait to say something about how much I loved this book!

First off, Tera has such an easy to read and engaging writing style. I love everything that she writes just from that standpoint. Then, you add in awesome characters, mythology, fun details and BAM! You have a winner.

I loved that this book was set in San Fransisco. It's one of those cities that has it's own character and mystique, adding another layer to the storyline. (And now, I really can't wait to see it myself someday!) The trolleys, the restaurants, the wharfs, the, well everything just seems soooo cool.

I loved that this book had three main characters. It was such fun learning about each. Their likes, dislikes, quirks, etc. and they are three very different girls! I had a blast imagining meeting each one and seeing how they reacted to different situations (and each other...). So far, my favorite is Grace. She's the easiest for me to relate to, but all of the girls are interesting in different ways.

I thought this book was action packed, funny, and had a really interesting mythology built into it. I CANNOT wait to read "Sweet Venom 2" (the title's going to be revealed SOON!!) and I think that this really is my favorite of Tera's books so far.
